Installing Privacera Discovery¶

Privacera Discovery helps you identify and manage sensitive information within your data assets. This section outlines the steps for installing Privacera Discovery.

The installation steps for Privacera Discovery are the same for both Self-Managed and PrivaceraCloud Data Plane environments. The key difference is that, in a PrivaceraCloud Data Plane deployment, the Portal also referred as Discovery Admin Console which runs in the customer's VPC is used solely for configuring and managing the Privacera Discovery service.

Self-Managed Installation¶

In a self-managed deployment, all components run within the customer's VPC, and tags are synchronized with the Apache Ranger instance, which is also hosted in the customer's VPC.

PrivaceraCloud Data Plane Installation¶

In a PrivaceraCloud Data Plane deployment, due to security and compliance requirements, the Privacera Discovery service and its dependencies are installed in the customer's VPC. The Privacera Discovery Admin Console is used to configure and manage the Privacera Discovery service. The Discovery module only sends tags to the PrivaceraCloud Control Plane, making them available to the tenant's Apache Ranger for defining access and encryption policies.
